  398.     C.  Tilt-Base Mounting Hardware:
  399.         1.  Two-piece hinged base:  Cast aluminum, heat-treated,
  400.             drilled for anchor bolt diameter and pattern
  401.             specified in manufacturer's descriptive literature
  402.             for indicated flagpole height; sleeved over shaft
  403.             butt and joined to shaft butt by continuous
  404.             circumferential welds at outside top and inside
  405.             bottom of base; entire assembly, including flagpole,
  406.             heat-treated after attachment of shoebase casting.
  407.         2.  Pivot rod:  3/4 inch diameter solid aluminum rod
  408.             joining anchored and hinged base units; welded rod
  409.             ends to prevent removal after assembly.
  410.         3.  Fasteners:  Quantity, diameter, and length specified
  411.             in Manufacturer's descriptive literature for
  412.             indicated flagpole height; include countersunk allen-
  413.             head hold-down screws, anchor bolts, nuts and
  414.             washers.

  517. PART 3  EXECUTION
  518.  
  519. 3.1 EXAMINATION

  523.     A.  Verification of Conditions:  Anchoring devices are
  524.         correct type, and in correct location, in accordance with
  525.         approved shop drawings and manufacturer's instructions.

  527.     B.  Installer's Examination:
  528.         1.  Have installer of this section examine conditions
  529.             under which construction activities of this section
  530.             are to be performed, then submit written notification
  531.             if such conditions are unacceptable.
  532.         2.  Transmit two copies of installer's report to
  533.             Architect within 24 hours of receipt.
  534.         3.  Beginning construction activities of this section
  535.             before unacceptable conditions have been corrected is
  536.             prohibited.
  537.         4.  Beginning construction activities of this section

  548.     B.  Ground Sleeve:
  549.         1.  Excavate in undisturbed soil to indicated depth,
  550.             width, and length, providing shoring for unstable
  551.             soil conditions; remove non-soil materials from
  552.             excavation.
  553.         2.  Coat surface of ground sleeve assembly, and surfaces
  554.             of shaft that will be installed below grade, with
  555.             bituminous paint, minimum 5 mil dry film thickness
  556.             (DFT).
  557.         3.  Place ground sleeve assembly in excavation, locating
  558.             as indicated; drive ground spike into undisturbed
  559.             soil to extent that base plate is flush with bottom
  560.             of excavation.
  561.         4.  Place concrete in excavation immediately after
  562.             mixing, using chute to deliver concrete to placement;
  563.             surround ground sleeve with concrete, placing
  564.             concrete to finish grade, and compacting with
  565.             vibrators.
  566.         5.  Slope concrete surface from top of ground sleeve to
  567.             grade for water run-off to grade; screed concrete
  568.             surface to smooth trowel finish.
  569.         6.  Moist-cure concrete surface; allow concrete to attain
  570.             full 28-day compressive strength before installing
  571.             flagpole.

  573.     C.  Shoe Base:
  574.         1.  Set base in grout bed of sufficient height that
  575.             excess grout is displaced as anchoring and adjusting
  576.             of flagpole progresses; align base hole pattern with
  577.             anchor bolts and lower base to grout bed.
  578.         2.  Anchor and align flagpole plumb; provide temporary
  579.             bracing until grout attains full compressive
  580.             strength.
  581.         3.  Screed sight-exposed grout surfaces to 45-degree
  582.             fillet, removing excess grout from substrate.

  585.         1.  Set base in grout bed of sufficient height that

  587.             of flagpole progresses; align base hole pattern with
